A New Beginning for the Business District: Mt. Airy South Gateway Development
For many years now, the very visible southeast corner of Colerain Ave. and North Bend Rd. has been in need of attention and care. Blighted buildings and overgrown vegetation have created a negative perception of Mt. Airy for both residents and those just passing through, especially since this corner symbolizes the gateway to the business district from the east, south, and west.
In 2018, Mt. Airy CURE, in conjunction with the City of Cincinnati and the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development, acquired the four properties on both sides of the building directly on the corner. In the summer of 2024, the corner building occupied by the Warsaw Wireless cell phone store was also acquired, opening the door for the entire 2.45-acre corner to be reimagined. CURE believes this site will be home to major new development in the upcoming years, and our hope is to phase into new construction. Meetings with city officials and potential developers are already taking place to make this happen. In addition, $850,000 in federal funds were procured through the efforts of Rep. Greg Landsman to facilitate site prep and the first new building construction for this site.
This major project will likely span several years before completion and is currently in the planning and development phase. As new decisions are made and construction begins, CURE promises to be transparent with the community by making announcements through the web site, newsletter and social media. We are also very hopeful that this project will serve as a catalyst for positive development throughout Mt. Airy.
